In Alpha Drop #1, I described how the first 200 of 500 total Gutenbergs would be offered as free mints to members of four communities that have supported me during my web3 journey. These are /outcasts /page /degendao and the holders of OG Farcasters.
In Alpha Drop #2, I told the story of why I've been dropping medieval Vulgate bibles onto the blockchain since 2021, and how the Cryptoversal Gutenbergs (aka Blockchain Vulgates) became the first-ever web3 bibles. View the Blockchain Vulgates directly on OpenSea. Floor price: a bargain at 2 ETH!
Now we get to talk about what happens with the remaining 300 Gutenbergs after the pre-mint and why I spent so much time talking up the Blockchain Vulgates.
Among other uses, Gutenbergs are raffle tickets!
For every 50 Gutenbergs minted from the public mint, a Blockchain Vulgate will be added to the raffle pool along with a batch of other prizes. That's up to six batches and six Blockchain Vulgates, representing half of the total supply.
As more Gutenbergs are minted and the raffle pool fills with Vulgates and other prizes, the odds of winning go up. So as the total Gutenberg supply increases, the expected value of each one goes...up? It seems to defy the laws of economics, but I've done the math.
Since the Gutenberg collection is a celebration of publishing milestones, the other raffle prizes will include other web3-minted books, magazines, and poetry from the historic PageDAO Readme collection. Prizes you may win include:
Vagobond Magazine - This is an amazing web3 lifestyle magazine for which I serve as the literary editor. Each issue is chock full of web3 goodness.
Web3 Copyright Textbook - Someday all textbooks may be web3 textbooks, but this one came first. I like to slip a few into the wallets of anyone whose NFT collection blatantly violates another person's intellectual property rights, but it's a vital read for any creator.
NIGHTvision - A short story in the Wordlers universe. I minted this to platforms on six different blockchains to see which would best survive long-term. I think it may be this one on Polygon.
January 6th Committee Final Report - A whodunnit mystery. If things go badly in American politics, this report may disappear down a memory hole. Thankfully, the censorship-resistant features of web3 will preserve this edition.
U.S. v. Sam Bankman-Fried 3rd Superseding Indictment - Another release in the American Justice series. These are the charges that sent SBF to prison. For the bribery charges that may never actually be brought, you'll want to read the 2nd Superseding Indictment instead.
Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley - One of my all-time favorites.
Fraud: The Art of the Steal by Yellowstone Rob and Cryptoversal - Hey, we wrote a book! Our humorous take on the Trump & Co. New York civil fraud case.
"Hercules Meets His Match" - A short story of Olympic glory.
"RUN" - A work of pandemic poetry set in ancient Thebes.
American Government, 3rd Ed. - Another textbook. In you live in the US, it's another important reference to keep in your wallet.
Blockchain Genesis - A companion to the Blockchain Vulgate. This is the only Genesis Token I've ever seen that includes the entire Book of Genesis. Scanned from a 1611 first-edition KJV bible, from the first time these verses were published in the English language.
...along with some surprises!
The six raffle pool batches together will contain at least 500 items, so if the collection sells out, everyone will receive a prize.
If your prize isn't a Blockchain Vulgate, you may still have a chance to own a piece of one. Details on that in a future alpha drop. As always, direct comments and questions to /cryptoversal
